The South won, which is exactly why their names stayed up and the monuments were erected. Exactly it

Lincoln not Washington. Washington died in 1799. The Civil War began in 1861.

I just watched a documentary about the civil war and it highlighted him ( Abraham Lincoln )being opposed to the expansion of slavery into new U.S. territories as the main reason why the civil war started. Not once in the documentary I watched did they state anything you said, shout out to you for giving more insight on what really happened

I think what gets missed in this belief is the Lost Cause. The South lost, and because they lost, they created a narrative to make it seem like they won (hence the name Lost Cause). That's why the monuments exist, the generals are honored, "Southern pride/heritage," etc. To believe that the South won, you'd have to think that white supremacy and racial hierarchy did not exist before the Civil War. The Confederacy was not "allowed" to paint this narrative. They did so because they had the power to. The North never intended on fighting it because they'd benefit from white supremacy and racial hierarchy regardless if slavery continued. We can't compare post Civil War to post Nazi Germany because Germany was under pressure from several other countries and the Jews did not experience dehumanization and systemic oppression prior to the 30s on the same level that enslaved people did. Also, the Holocaust lasted about 20years. We were experiencing slavery for 100-200years by the time Civil War occurred. The "Confederate ideaology" at its core is white supremacy. The country has been a white supremacist state long before the Civil War, it's no surprise it didn't change.

One of the founding members of the KKK who was also a confederate general, had a high school named after him in the city that I moved from five years ago. I’m pretty sure just like this city in the Deep South, that named one of its public high schools after him, there are probably other schools around the South that bare his name as well, so yes the South did win the American Civil War.
