Cheesecake is far older than most people realise. It dates back over 4,000 years to ancient Greece, where a simple mixture of cheese, honey and wheat was served to athletes at the Ancient Olympic Games. The Romans later spread it across Europe, and over centuries it evolved into the baked and chilled cheesecakes we know today. New York-style cheesecake didn’t appear until the 20th century after cream cheese became popular.
