There are some cups that are like an open top cup but are closed, so they don’t spill as easily but help them learn the motion of an open top cup. They’re much easier to transition out of than a sippy cup

I sometimes wish I had this issue. Since my son had his first bite of real food we haven't been able to keep him fed 🤣 he inhales food like it's his last meal

Don’t buy a spenny “baby weaning floor mat” …get an oilskin tablecloth. Once they’re out of weaning and into playdoh it is STILL useful. And oilskin tablecloths come in nice patterns. And are so so robust

As a childrens speech therapist i LOVE hearing weaning stories and also love seeing people use open cups! Cups with a short, weighted straw (like munchkin tip and sip) are also great for drinking skill development

Can confirm silicone tastes horrible after a while and there’s nothing you can do to fix it. I felt so bad when I realised I’d been feeding my daughter food that tasted like soapy flowers

my 11 month old loves an open cup but now thinks everyone's drink is for her! I hold my drink and have her on my hip and as soon as I pick it up she is leaning in, mouth open 🤣 sorry Bebe, no coffee for you!

I found bibado bibs best for mess - the expensive ones, not knock offs as they don’t wash well.

Straw cups can be good too for their development as it's a skill they keep. And definitely yes for getting messy. It's painful but also good for their development and positive food association. Sorry for unsolicited advice! X

The constant blowing raspberries could also be teething! It’s a way of soothing the discomfort, so may explain the sleep too!

Try a full cup. he won't have to tip it as far to get the water. try in the bath or outside the first few times.

I did baby led weaning with my fourth (last!) and I wish I’d done it with the others. Messy but so much less hassle 👌

I honestly lived on coffee and cake during both my mat leaves. Trouble is my kids are now 9 and 5 and coffee and cake is still my whole personality 🙈

I have stainless steel plates and bowls and love them but it’s so annoying you can’t microwave them, so much more washing heating it up in a bowl then transferring over

Huckleberry had me in a chokehold hahaha I stopped when she was one as she went to nursery and I was like surely I can’t log what she eats there hahaha 😂😂 I think it’s health care in us as we must document everything otherwise did it happen? Haaha

Weaning is SO messy, but it’s so fun seeing them find all these new things they enjoy! My youngest started 6 months with an open top cup and he’s now 13 month and a pro at it, but still occasionally will tip a whole drink down his front just for the shits and giggles of it all.
