@therapistinrecovery: Bad things happening doesn’t mean your OCD is “right”. It doesn’t mean treatment isn’t working or that you’re doing it wrong. In fact, the opposite is often true but those “bad things” are at least attached to fulfillment not avoidance which has a whole different vibe. Hard things happening means you’re living your life. And I’ll say the obvious til everyone gets it but BAD THINGS HAPPEN no matter what. maybe it’s the feared thing maybe it’s something else. Regardless, you only become ready and resilient to the bad thing once it happens and not a moment before. If you try to prepare in advance for bad things or avoid them you will make life a different type of miserable. So I will never be the therapist that tries o convince you you’re always safe or fine or everything will be okay . Because it will be and then it won’t then it will and so on. Here’s the good news though- even with hardship, we can still live a fulfilling life. That’s my goal for my clients #obsessivecompulsivedisorder #ocdtiktok #harmocd #ocd #ocdawareness

Licensed therapist here in Oh who specializes in OCD and trauma - - I’d add to the statement of accepting negative things… we overestimate a threat and underestimate our ability to cope.

I involuntarily think of at least 10 worst case scenarios a day and it’s awful.

I had a somewhat traumatic childhood. I have ADHD that also comes with OCD depression and anxiety. I believe ADHD is known to give you pattern recognition so I feel like I’m always a step ahead in knowing that something bad is about to happen or seeing what is going on will lead to something bad and that is the OCD for me because nine times out of 10 I’m right so there’s this fear that if I’m not always looking at the patterns or being prepared for something to goes wrong, it will be catastrophic.

I am at peace with my OCD and can recognize it for what it is now most of the time which honestly helps, but that first moment like when I texted my husband that I secretly hoped my daughter wouldnt pass her permit test because I am scared for her to drive and then she missed one question and failed and the guilt was crazy. I have to remind myself that I am not infact an all powerful being that manifests everything I say out loud...but that little voice says "what if you are though" because look at what just happened

It's so hard and draining, knowing and accepting bad things happen is one but how do you get over the fear of it happening because of you having a certain thought/image/feeling? And then not going the compulsions that those lead to

If I have symptoms of something it makes my ocd worse and I have to wait until symptoms go before I can move on but that never happens because something else will take place. Fed up with it

So hard when OCD attacks your kids. I have teenage boys and every time they drive anywhere I think they’ll die in an accident. And I know I’m NOT able to handle if that happens. It’s aweful having these thoughts every time they leave the house 😩

You are far more expert than anyone, and there is no comparison between us. My understanding of OCD is still limited, but what you said in this clip applies only to specific branches of OCD. For someone like me, a patient with Pure-O OCD or False Memory OCD, this kind of talk would crush them. They would believe that what happened purely in their imagination actually took place and that they must accept it, when in reality, it never happened at all "Thank you so much for your time and understanding. Best regards."

Okay okay. What piece of advice would you give. As a person who suffers from OCD will majority of mental compulsions, I always said what if my parents die, what if my partner dies, etc etc. Now in real life my dad has stage 4 cancer and is trying 2ndtreatment to treat it You can say I’ve been a mess cause I feel my OCD has come true and I’m not coping which is the basis of my fear. What if I can’t cope what if I freak out and never get out of it.
