I have the Breville bambino & I use the Baratza encore esp grinder. Use fresh beans. Once I grind the beans, I use a WDT tool, distributor, tamper & puck screen. I also make sure to let the machine run a single shot to heat up the machine. I then brew the espresso, every 2 weeks or so when I get new beans I need to run a manual shot to train the machine how much liquid gets released

Grind size is super important for espresso, and is highly dependent on both bean and machine. I’d highly recommend getting a good grinder with a timer.

your bean are too coarse so the water is flowing through too fast. Highly recommend grinding your owns beans! It will make a huuuuge difference

You need to manually drop your shot at 32/33 grams so that it actually stops at 36 grams. Then you still need to adjust your grind size but that will fix that problem

I would tamp harder and on the counter, not your scale. But also try with less grounds. The little razor tool will help you level them out and prevent over filling.

I use a distributor (a circle thing I buy from Amazon) to make sure it’s spread evenly before I tamp it down

Yes, fresh beans from your local roaster and honestly investing in a grinder is what makes it worth having. This allows you to dial in your beans (changing grind size) to allow best taste/body of the espresso. Look into a single dose grinder with 64mm burrs, you got this!

Don’t tamp on your scale

Looks like the grind size is too coarse so it’s brewing too quick. Also if you can get a spring loaded tamper it’s better than the one that comes with the machine

your grind size almost needs to look like powder, yours is just a bit too coarse. I recommend grinding fresh beans everytime you make your coffee. I use a manual grinder but ive heard great things about the tuni conical burr grinder. But grind size is so so important like everyone else said! Also tamping really hard lol. But practice makes perfect. I feel like im still perfecting my shots lol

If your Breville came with a dual walled filter basket, it’s meant for beans that are already ground so it should come out better if you use that 🫶🏼

Fresh beans and a grinder will make it so worth it. Try Baratza esp and fresh beans from a local coffee shop/ roaster

Sparkle a Latte :
Go to your local coffee shop roasters, buy them there and ask them to grind them. Coffee beans are the same as espresso beans there is no difference, espresso is just the brewing style

1. there is no such thing as espresso beans 2. your only problem is your beans 3. go to a good coffee shop. have them grind it for you and store it in the freezer - only take out what you need. do not thaw and re-freeze 4. get a grinder ASAP.... df54 or encore ESP 5. don't watch TikTok tutorials from people that bought their machines 3 months ago. check out Lance Hedrick and James Hoffman on YouTube to really learn how it works.

DF54 grinder is definitely the best bang for your buck and you won’t need to upgrade it anytime soon

If you don’t have a grinder yet, go to your local coffee shop, buy a pack of whole beans and ask the barista to grind them all for you. Most places use their machines and will do it for free!

Switch to the double wall basket if you’re using pre ground - it’s the one with one hole on the bottom

Small Hours Coffee :
If you’re going to use the WDT you need to have a funnel so you don’t knock coffee out. You need to tamp MUCH harder and not on the scale. Use the edge of the counter and tamp. Did you get your beans pre ground as espresso or just grab a bag of pre ground from the grocery store? That’s going to be your #1 correction. But until you get the grind right nothing else really matters.

It's simply your grind size. Always stop the brew after 36g out. Check the time, if >30s grind coarser, if <20s grind finer. I typically am for 36 out in 25s but it's all personal preference
