They included the First Crusade (1096-1099), Second Crusade (1147-1149), Third Crusade (1189-1192), Fourth Crusade (1202- 1204), Fifth Crusade (1217-1221), Sixth Crusade (1228-1229), Seventh Crusade (1248-1254), Eighth Crusade (1270), and Ninth Crusade (1271-1272). Major battles against Muslim forces included Dorylaeum (1097), Antioch (1098), Jerusalem (1099), Hattin (1187), Arsuf (1191), and Damietta (1218-1219). The Crusader presence in the Holy Land ended with the fall of Acre in 1291. Beyond the numbered Crusades, Christian kingdoms continued fighting Muslim states in other campaigns throughout the medieval period. These included expeditions in the Levant, Egypt, North Africa, and the Iberian Peninsula during the broader era of 1095-1492. Military orders such as the Knights Templar, Knights Hospitaller, and Teutonic Order took part in many of these conflicts alongside European kingdoms. Not every campaign involved Muslim opponents, but many did. The Polish Winged Hussars served from the late 16th to the early 18th century, Thev fouaht several wars against the Ottoman Empire and its allies, TU THE WEST: participating in battles such as Lubieszów (1577), Byczyna (1588), Khotyn (1621), Berestechko (1651), Vienna (1683), Parkany (1683), and Zenta (1697). Their charge at Vienna on 12 September 1683 is widely regarded as one of history's most famous cavalry attacks. The Crusading era lasted roughly 195 years (1096-1291), while the peak era of the Winged Hussars covered about 123 years (1576-1699). Both periods consisted of numerous separate wars, campaigns, sieges, and battles fought by different generations of soldiers rather than a single continuous conflict. Because of this, there is no single "age" that applies to all Crusaders or all Winged Hussars.
