@cfr_org: As the United States turns 250, we asked members of the Society for Historians of American Foreign Relations what they considered to be the 10 best and 10 worst foreign policy decisions in U.S. history. From violent westward expansion to interwar isolationism and military interventions, here are the U.S. foreign policy decisions historians said left the most tarnished legacies. Visit the link in our bio to see the full ranking.
The Paris treaty did nothing except make the US pay other countries

Yeah, 10 is such a small number. America is great but many times presidents did the wrong thing. Normal I guess

While we’re all celebrating 250 just remember how we got here. There was some good but there was a lot more bad.

Kennedy (and Eisenhower) got us involved in Vietnam. Kennedy deserves much more credit for the mess it became.

Please don’t leave out the other Tribal Nations— Creek, Chickasaw, Choctaw, and Seminole. In 1836 there were 5,000 Seminole in Florida. 20 years later there were 200.

The Platt Amendment and Philippines genocide both need to be on this list, and maybe the entire Monroe Doctrine as well.

I disagree on the nooklear, but agree on everything else. I’d add Gaza policy especially since 2025, and The Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act

The propaganda the American government and media did for the American government the past century has been abhorrent. The American government is just like every other government it commits horrible acts and is the furthest thing from moral you could get.

I’d. I’ve Tonkin Resolution higher. Without expanding our presence in Vietnam, not only are hundreds of thousands deaths avoided but LBJ has more time, money and political clout to devout to his Great Society. How different would the US be today?

Good list but I’d argue Bay of Pigs should be here too. Bay of Pigs directly led to the Cuban Missile crisis, Cubas isolation, and placing of nukes in Cuba. The Cuban Missile Crisis is literally the closest the world has come to ending
