The officers questioned how someone her age could afford a vehicle, searched through her phone, and repeatedly asked about the source of her income. Some believe the police were simply doing their job by investigating suspicious circumstances. Others argue that being young and successful should never be treated as evidence of a crime. Owning a car at 18 is not, by itself, proof of illegal activity. At the same time, law enforcement has a duty to investigate genuine criminal activity within the limits of the law.
