God forbid we make enough money to support ourselves and live comfortably. With 401k, you're only allowed so much money to put in each year. unless you're older and then you get to play catch up

when you retire you can convert your 401k into your own personal pension plan. It will perform better thana conventional pension without the high fees. Good job. I remember when this come out on 60 minutes.

Roth 401k and s also an option. Saving and becoming debt free is an option. Investing yourself in land and property or what ever is an option. So ya many ways to help you have a comfortable retirement.

yeah my grandparents got let go from their jobs in 1982 so that the company they worked at wouldn't have to pay them a pension, so at age 58 they were told to start a 401k and left with nothing. they both had jobs till 80 when health declined in 2004

Taking away pensions was the worst idea. Taking away benefits because of lack of unions. Bring unions back to protect worker’s benefits!

And not everyone can afford to contribute so they are not only not saving, they don't get match from the employer. It's a huge savings for employers.

My mom is one of the lucky old folks who got a pension and a 401k. Between her pension, rolling her 401k earnings into another investment account, and SS, she makes my annual salary in a single month… meanwhile I’ll never own a house. So that’s cool.

We can't count on this country to be there for us. Contribute to your own Roth IRA in addition to a 401K.
