I waited 6 months to get cbt from the nhs and then the person doing it decided I knew too much about my anxiety to treat me and refused to do it after a week! So I tried again to go to my doctor just to be asked if I tried cbt.

AbsurdlyAwkward :
cbt is for people who are temporarily sad, recent passing of someone close, bad work environment, personal injury etc. it doesn't work for people who have chronic depression.

My therapist last session on CBT: 'It seems like you're improving and making some great progress' Me, who has literally not improved one bit: 🧍🏼‍♂️

Years ago, when I had CBT I pretended that it was working wonders because I didn’t want to hurt my therapist’s feelings.

When I did CBT they asked me which was my main presenting concern; anxiety or depression. I spoke for ages about how they're interconnected and hard to separate, and how they cause and are caused by each other, and how a lot of the time they feel less like two distinct things and more like two aspects of the same experience, and that trying to separate them or rank them doesn't really make sense to me. The CBT practitioner said that the form just asks which is worse and that I need to pick one. Pretty illustrative of my overall CBT experience.

CBT is absolutely useless for some people. kept trying to teach me that the bad stuff I worried about probably wouldn't happen, but my brain was like 'but what if you're the exception'.

There’s other therapies. The government use CBT as a way to get people back to work quicker rather than solving their issues.

I don't work in the NHS, but I am a therapist trying to fight this from the inside. CBT generates quantitive data, which can create funding, and it's short term so it's cheap. But does it actully help people? I think these comments say it all. I promise some of us are trying to voice this, and we will keep going until we are heard.

cbt - you're worrying about something that is very unlikely to happen, near impossible, lets change that. me- I'm terrified of real previous incidents happening again, since its happened many times before. cbt - it is very unlikely to happen again, let me remove everything youve learned to keep yourself safe

Tried CBT twice because I struggle to leave the house due to physical and mental health problems. Their advice? "Have you tried leaving the house?" I'm so glad I waited months to talk to a professional both times just to get the same advise as my mom tells me after giving up on me

CBT threapy: “just gaslight yourself into thinking your okay and can do things, then you’ll be okay and able to do things” DBT: “distract yourself from your emotions long enough until you don’t feel them anymore” neither of them work for me as i feel like shit from when i wake up until i go to sleep. Their is literally nothing that can help me :)

Accuracy on point, only part you missed was that if you refuse then you’re the one not engaging!

I was in a CBT group during Covid and one woman said this was her 9th attempt at it because it’s all she was offered. It was my 3rd and did nothing for me. Still stuck with the same issues 6 years on.

CBT is good alongside counselling but not first before anything is unpicked or dealt with. CBT is more suited for the point at which the individual wants to move on.
