The tree wasn’t there because God hoped they’d fail. It was there because love without choice isn’t love. God knew what Adam and Eve would choose, but His knowledge didn’t force their decision. The tree gave humanity a real opportunity to trust God, and when they failed, God had already planned redemption through Christ.

Love your heart for wanting to answer your friend! Tell your friend that God isn't surprised by our mistakes. He exists outside of time. He allowed the tree because He knew that a story of redemption, mercy, and unconditional love is infinitely more beautiful than a story where nothing ever goes wrong. I find myself explaining the “free will” part based on my interpretation as the scene in a marvel movie (infinity War or Endgame can’t remember lol)with Dr strange checking the billion of billion possibilities in order to defeat Thanos. Similarly which God foresees and help depending on which of the billions of billions outcomes one individual chooses and creates an effect. He waits for your choice or you pray upon for guidance. Thats how I view it and how I have come to understand it. Idk if it made any sense but those who watch the marvel movies might understand what I’m getting at.

idk you can't say free will, if he knew. knowing means there is no change, that proves there is no free will. free will can only be a thing if he DOESN'T know, bc then we actually have that free will.
