honestly I think it's a symptom of having the ring be powered by willpower. you run into the issue of having to answer the question of why Hal and not anyone else. Surely Batman and Wonder Woman have unbreakable wills. writers try to justify the ring choosing Hal without making other heroes be weaker willed by comparison

a huge problem with Green lantern is that his stories only ever focus on sinestro now. he literally has the "Batman problem" where Batmans only villain that they ever do any kind of content on is the joker, the same has been happening with Green lantern since the 90s and the only good piece of Green lantern media, and I will die on this hill. is Green lantern the animated series, it is the best by far

I love the idea of like the heroes I know and love having some reason that a lantern ring choses them… like Babs in the smallville comics is allegedly Nightwing AND A BLUE lantern (like how is that not cool, and furthermore how would it not be interesting to see our mainline Babs get a blue ring for an arc, like as/post becoming Oracle imo she becomes such a HUGE inspiration of hope outside of the universe it’d be cool for her time as a blue lantern to reflect that inside the universe) or how Batman was a yellow lantern cause of how much fear he instills in others and Supergirl was a red lantern due to her rage from the destruction of Krypton which is extremely interesting considering Superman I don’t think was red, Diana getting a pink ring and becomes a star sapphire like these these things are all just SO interesting…… why can’t we do more of that instead of this “Hal was a second choice”

I hate the downplay willpower of lanterns, like they should be downright immune to mind control and dominate anytone with pure will. But they dont even make them be weaken first then overpowered now they just get overpowered like they are not seen as literaly the best of the best in a sector with billions of trillions of sentient life.

Green Lanterns whole thing is having the most will power. If the rest of the league actually beats them at that too, then what's the point of the Green Lantern? like if everyone else in the JLA has more will than what are we even doing? That would be like making everyone stronger than superman or faster than the Flash, it just cheapens the character if you say that everyone else has their thing too
