I used to tell my girls and now my grand daughter, “you don’t want to be known as the stinky kid at school, because the kids will tease you!” Never had issues with my girls. I’ve had to repeat it to my granddaughter (9) but she understands.

There's a swahili saying "asiyefunzwa na mamaye hufunzwa na ulimwengu" "he who isn't taught by the mother will be taught by the world". As a parent you can control how you child learns from the world and guide him/her through the harsh lesson. She did well.
