Derrick Callella admitted to two counts of harassment using a telecommunication device, repeatedly contacting the family and asking about a bitcoin transfer despite knowing that an earlier ransom demand had already been made. He also admitted his messages were intended to harass the family and get information about the investigation into the disappearance. He is scheduled to be sentenced on September 10, with a conviction carrying a maximum penalty of two years in prison, a $250,000 fine, or both, and one year of supervised release.
