“Careful, sweetheart,” a low voice drawled behind him. “Keep looking at her like that and I might get jealous.” Jaeyun nearly jumped. He spun around and froze. Under the lights stood a figure dressed in black, dark hair tousled by the wind, silver rings glinting beneath pale fingers. He looked almost unreal beneath the moonlight. Like a raven watching something it wanted. Then the stranger smiled. “Do you always look this cute when distracted?” Jaeyun blinked. “What kind of opening line is that?” A soft laugh escaped him. And suddenly, recognition hit. “…Heeseung?” “There he is,” Heeseung murmured. “Was wondering when you’d recognize me.” Jaeyun stared at him in disbelief. “I haven’t seen you in forever.” His eyes drifted toward the motorcycle beside him. “Didn’t know you rode bikes.” Heeseung hummed. “Not the only thing I can ride.” Jaeyun nearly choked. “Excuse me?” “Nothing.” “You’re actually insane.” “And you still remembered me,” Heeseung teased. “Kinda touched, sweetheart.” Heat crawled up Jaeyun’s neck immediately. His attention drifted back toward the motorcycle, sleek black paint glowing beneath the streetlights. Heeseung noticed instantly. “You really like her, huh?” “Like?” Jaeyun scoffed. “I’m obsessed.” That earned a laugh. “Well,” Heeseung said, grabbing the spare helmet from the seat, “seeing how satisfied you look just staring at it…” He held it out. “Wanna take your first ride?” Jaeyun answered too fast. “Yes.” Heeseung blinked once before laughing quietly. “You trust me this easily? That’s either cute or concerning.” “Maybe I just trust your bike.” “Ouch. Using me for my motorcycle. I’m devastated.” A few minutes later, the engine roared beneath them. Jaeyun wrapped his arms around Heeseung’s waist, and immediately, Heeseung glanced over his shoulder. “If you hold onto me any tighter,” he teased, “I’m charging you for emotional damages.” “How does this even cause emotional damage?” A low laugh escaped him. “God, you’re innocent.” Then the motorcycle sped into the night. City lights blurred into streaks of gold around them. Cool air rushed against Jaeyun’s skin while the steady vibration of the engine hummed beneath him. Every time they stopped at a red light, Jaeyun became painfully aware of how close they were. One hand rested against Heeseung’s waist. Warm. Solid. Dangerous for reasons that had nothing to do with the speedometer. By the time they stopped at a gas station past midnight, Jaeyun’s heartbeat still hadn’t settled. Inside, the fluorescent lights buzzed softly overhead. Heeseung pulled off his gloves and tossed them onto the counter carelessly. Jaeyun hated how good that looked. He looked away too late. “You keep looking at me like you’ve got thoughts you shouldn’t.” “What? I’m not staring at you.” “Really?” “I was looking at the bike.” “Sure you were, sweetheart.” Heeseung leaned against the counter, close enough to make Jaeyun suddenly aware of the tiny space between them. “Keep staring at me like that,” he murmured, “and I’m gonna start thinking you want a second ride.” Jaeyun’s breath caught slightly. Of course Heeseung noticed. “You really shouldn’t trust strangers this easily,” he said lightly. “Middle of the night, climbing onto some guy’s motorcycle like it’s normal.” “You’re not a stranger.” Heeseung tilted his head. “That supposed to make me less dangerous?” The silence between them suddenly felt heavier. Then Heeseung smiled faintly. “You know what your problem is?” “What?” “You look at dangerous things like they’d never hurt you.” And somehow, despite every warning sign screaming in his face… Jaeyun already wanted that second ride.
