They drew straight lines through mountains, rivers, and kingdoms. They split families. They divided nations. They created borders that had never existed, and that we are still bleeding from today. The Bakongo, once one people, were divided among three colonies. The Somali, one nation, were split into five. The Masai were cut in half by a line they never agreed to. These lines were drawn around resources. Uranium. Oil. Gold. Groundnuts, etc. Afrika's wealth was mapped before Afrika's people were even considered. A century later, we are still living inside those lines. Still fighting over borders we never created. Still dying to cross lines we never drew. This song is a history lesson, a remembering.
