Airbnb doesn’t regulate host schedules- it’s up to the host to disable the listings and they get notified when someone books or if they use a rental company the get notified. They probably forgot to disable bookings allowed.

Not only will Airbnb refund your money they'll also find you another place. It being the holiday may be a customer service issue. Now if they were scammed Airbnb may not have a record of it.
