Facts most modern day biopics particularly the music biopic genre is just 2 hours of “wow this person was so amazing” which isn’t interesting

bohemian rhapsody was the downfall of biopics no shade, now it’s just become a competition to see who can re-create live performances or concerts is better

If the family, friends or even the subject themselves are involved in the making of the film, it’s not going to be good

YES that film is SO good in that it breaks down X as a person and shows him to be a complex character, which was incredible to do back then. Malcolm X is a really inspiring figure (I almost prefer him over MLK) and the film is a masterpiece in displaying X as what he truly was, without being afraid to go further with social commentary

Biopics are a scourge on films and an attack on fiction. However, there are some great ones. The movie Malcolm X reinvented him in the public imagination after society shunned him. Wish Paul Robeson gets that treatment

Thank God for Spike Lee. Watching this radicalized me as a child who had already experienced struggles with the legal system. It taught me all leaders struggle authority and never to run from that fight.

Great video! Malcolm X is Amazing. I’ve never been a huge fan of bio pics, but my fav film is the Social Network - which is one. It’s such a great, critical and entertaining examination. Love it.

The sequence toward the end of Malcolm, Betty, and the assassins all driving separately to the Audobon Ballroom is spellbinding.

and people on tiktok would comment on the trailer for MX and call it unethical bc his estate didn’t endorse it 😭 screenwriting professor always taught us that once you become a public figure (willingly or not), you give up your right to NOT be depicted on screen

I had a screenwriting teacher who wrote a fairly famous rock music biopic and he told my class about all the arguments from family about “you can’t show/talk about xyz” and it completely disillusioned me from them entirely.
