Born November 1, 1901, Hellen was the only child of Dr. C.W. Gensimore and his wife, Gertrude. Described as a beautiful, healthy, and generous little girl, she was the center of her parents’ world. As the daughter of a physician, she enjoyed many luxuries. Tragically, Hellen contracted pneumonia and died on January 21, 1906 at just 4 years old. Heartbroken, her parents erected this life-sized monument in her likeness at Bedford Cemetery in Bedford, Pennsylvania. I love the memorial monuments in the likeness of the child that has passed. I visited Margaret Pitkin in Vermont and she was exquisitely carved. So tragic but so beautiful.
