@lidreamhomes: Things NYC people don’t realize until they move to Long Island… 👀🏡 Everyone talks about getting more space. Fewer people talk about everything else that comes with the move. Here are some of the biggest surprises I hear from people after they leave NYC for Long Island: 🚗 You actually need a car. In the city, hopping on the subway is second nature. On Long Island, your car becomes part of your daily routine. Grocery store, gym, Target, kids’ activities… you’re driving. 🏡 Your backyard becomes your favorite room. Weekend BBQs, morning coffee on the patio, letting the kids or dog run around—it changes how you spend your free time. 🚆 The commute is a tradeoff. The LIRR can make commuting into Manhattan surprisingly manageable, but you’ll quickly learn that missing your train by one minute can feel like missing your flight. 💰 Property taxes are real. They’re one of the first things buyers ask about. Every town is different, so it’s important to look at the full monthly payment and not just the purchase price. 🥯 People are passionate about food. You’ll hear endless debates about the best bagels, pizza, delis, and Italian bakeries. And yes… everyone thinks their local spot is the best. 🏖️ The lifestyle changes. Instead of spending weekends looking for rooftop brunches, you might find yourself at the beach, a local street fair, farmers market, winery, or your kids’ soccer tournament. 🌳 Every town has its own personality. Two towns that are only 10 minutes apart can feel completely different… from the downtown area and parks to the schools, housing styles, and overall vibe. 👋 People know their neighbors. Block parties, neighborhood Facebook groups, holiday decorating contests, and waving to the same people on your evening walk become part of everyday life. ⏰ Life moves at a different pace. It’s still busy, but for many people it feels a little less rushed and a little more community-focused. If you’ve made the move from NYC to Long Island… what surprised you the most? 👇 Drop your answer below, and tag someone who’s thinking about making the move. #longislandnewyork

No need to move here when I was born and raised here. I can get to all the action in midtown manhattan by 40 min drive or 50 min express train from Babylon. Who wants to live in that congested city? 🤷♂️
