Because I love my grandparents, I learned to speak my dialect so I could communicate with them more easily. Although I studied in an English-medium school and my mother tongue is Mandarin, I believe it is important to preserve my dialect. Knowing and appreciating our culture is about much more than watching movies in our dialect or eating our traditional cuisine. It is about understanding our heritage, communicating with our elders, and keeping our traditions and identity alive for future generations.
