Arcadia South, the 53rd top ranked public golf course in the United States- Let’s talk about it! As we know, Arcadia Bluffs gets most of the shine between the two courses and really over every other course in the state, but I’m here to tell you that the south course at Arcadia is the better golf course. That’s right. Just a mile south of the Bluffs course is Arcadia South. It is a distinctly different golf course than the bluffs and probably anything else you’ve played. The routing of the South Course is two distinct nine hole loops, each containing a balanced mix of north, south, east and west facing holes. Golfers will notice the distinct lack of trees on the course, which I always love. This is how golf should look in my opinion. With a focus on strategy, and the thought provoking use of angles, the goal is to capture the simplistic nature of the courses from the early days of golf in America. The course plays firm and fast in the fairways and that is where the strategy begins. It feels like there’s a million fairway and greenside bunkers. They are beautifully built and diabolically placed. Your approach game is everything here as many of the greens have false fronts. The putting surface here is what separates it from other courses, most of the greens are massive and cut into squares and feature multiple tears or slopes. You won’t find a flat spot on many if any of the greens. It was a great layout in my opinion with such a strong collection of holes throughout. The par 3’s i found to be the most difficult and really enjoyed holes 2,4, 12 and 13, just to name a few.
