I wanted this oversized bag to look extra slouchy, broken-in and lived-in, so I started folding, creasing and crumpling the leather…and look at that color movement. This is one of my favorite things about leather. When certain leathers are bent or stretched, the color can lighten in those areas as oils and waxes within the leather/finish shift. This is often called pull-up or pull-up effect, and it’s what can create that beautiful variation, depth and distressed character you see as leather ages. Nutmeg is a full-grain pebbled leather, and mine showed some gorgeous color movement when I worked it. Instead of trying to keep this bag looking perfectly untouched, I decided to lean into it and give it that worn-in, vintage look on purpose.
