Authorities are investigating the possibility of a glacial lake outburst upstream in Tibet as the cause of the sudden surge. The situation remains developing, and the full extent of the loss is still not known. Rescue teams, security forces and helicopters have been mobilised, while communities downstream along the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli rivers have been urged to remain on high alert. This is not just a story about a river overflowing. It is a reminder of how vulnerable Himalayan communities can be to sudden climate- and glacier-related disasters.
