They framed the argument wrong. If you buy a physical copy of something you don't "own" the copyrighted material on it. You own a plastic license subject to its own unique terms and conditions. The same way a distributor can revoke a digital license, your physical copy is susceptible theft, damage, and loss. Its all pros and cons, hell even bluray discs have a shelf life. You are statistically more likely to lose a physical copy in various ways than to have a digital license revoked in your lifetime.

another lie that they spread is that the full game is not on the disc. Which is false. Most PS5 games contain the entire game data on the disc. However what it doesn’t contain is the updates or patches. Physical media may not be total ownership but its the closest thing to it. If your account gets hacked, or banned. You still got your game if its on a disc. If a game is removed from the store due to licensing expiration…..you still got your game on the disc. People, please stop defending Sony who is CLEARLY trying to monopolize our library.

They can remove a game from the digital market, but if you purchased the game digitally, before it was removed, you still have your game the same as a physical copy. The license is what you purchased whether physically or digitally. Which is why if your account is banned, your physical games won't be playable the same as digital. because the license is attached to your account. Which is what allowed you to access the game.

It’s no different than redeeming a game code on steam the game is on the code they stopped putting the actual game on those disc in the early mid 2000s all you own is a pretty case but you don’t own the game

And if I’m not mistaken when you use a disk now you have to download files from a server and newer games only have rest to start and it’s literally just the boot up title screen not the whole game that’s on the disk 😂😂😂

The EU will pass legislation forcing Sony to allow 3rd party stores to sell software like it did to Apple with the iPhone. The US consumer will have to buy from the monopoly Sony will have when it comes to PS5 software.

Brother. Regardless of whether you need to be online to play the game or not. The license is stored on the console. You would need to never plug your console up to the internet again if they ever revoke the license for the game on the console.

The actual game isn’t on the disc itself but a key with the game files that are then copied onto your console is you can’t insert that disc then instantly play it it has to be downloaded first because your console has to verify that you own it
