The rules doesn’t state whether the ball goes to the opponent direction, it’s about how deliberate the action was. In this case his intentions was to clear the ball out that’s why he jumped so automatically the offside has been cancelled regardless of how minimal the contact was.

if the line judge didn't think it touched the head in real time. then why are we checking to see if it was was touched? it clearly didn't affect the ball at all. actually, the defender's touch affected the ball.
