Not sure this is accurate. Most of us who are cognizant of what's going on are ashamed of our government, not our country. But flying a flag to celebrate under current circumstances would feel wrong for a hundred different reasons, none of which are "hoping to fit in"

Generalization helps no one. People on both sides of the political spectrum didn’t celebrate the 4th, or did and did so to remind themselves and others of what our country should/could be like. Some just… wanted to have fireworks and bbq. Others just wanted to rest. It’s not always the republican, democrat, liberal agenda.
