@life.jasonzhang: Raw and unfiltered look at how the last 3 months has been since Google On the job search side, going forward I will be focusing less on leetcode and more on system design, and next steos will be to start doing mock interviews with friends. On the content side, I’ve committed to only posting 2 videos a week (down from 4-5 posts a week) but if you are a creator too, then you know how much admin work comes with content outside of just making videos. I’ve also been overthinking a lot still and spent 2 hours the other day looking at fonts so yea, I’m horrible as timeboxing. I know I haven’t shared much on the job search side because the prep does take a long time, especially since I haven’t been hearing back from the companies I have applied to so far, it’s showing me that getting interviews even with Google on my resume is rare and I should aim to prepare as much as I can. After all, you only need 1 interview to land a job. I also want to preface that I’m fully aware I’m in a privileged position, to have savings I can live off of while I find a job and do content on the side. If you don’t have a 3-6 month emergency fund yet, I highly recommend saving for it slowly, because it’s helped a lot with my stress / anxiety. I’ll be sharing more numbers soon, # of jobs I applied to, rejections, interviews, if what I studied even helped, and more in the upcoming month as I go through it myself so stay tuned. Focus is still everywhere 😕, does anyone else ever feel like they have a million things they want to do and just can’t prioritize? Thanks for being here and if you read till the end, comment a 🌱 emoji (thanks for reading my long thoughts and if you’re in a similar spot, know that you’re not alone 💛) If you have any other questions, leave them below! #layoffs #Tech

You got to apply to more jobs. You need to apply to hundreds a month.

This is why even with 400K income, I choose to pay $800 living in San Leandro rather than $3000 living in SF or the Peninsula

If you’ve applied for 30 jobs without one call, you’re not doing it correctly

Telling your parents is on a need to know basis. You don’t need the added stress. Speaking from experience. Keep networking & living below your means.

I once got laid off and applied for over 400 jobs in two months. This was right after Covid so times were tough. Out of those applications I landed 3 final interviews. You gotta keep grinding. It’s tough and not easy but stay persistent and something will come.

Leetcode is probably the most useless thing ever invented. It’s performative intelligence, not real complex long term intelligence. Companies in the age of AI shouldn’t even test this

studying is great and I understand it's important because of all the technical aspects of the interview they might test you on but I would definitely apply a bit more, to at least get the first phase interviews out of the way because you don't get the technical phase until after you pass the intro interviews, then study like crazy. it's good that you've been studying for some time now though, you should be good to start applying more while studying.

Smart you were saving up for a 🌧 day when you were still working for Google. You are obviously very smart and have a good work history. You will land something good and hopefully soon!

I worked in IT for a decade and got laid off three times. my savings saved me each time too. IT pays well, but it's so important to save in case of a layoff because unfortunately they're a standard industry practice
