if you don't peg your weight on a texas rig, you get the same amount of action as the free rig with zero snags that comes with the free rig. It's still the best big bass set up you can throw.

What killed the Texas rig was people pegging the weight. if you dont do that, let the full action of the bait do its thing. It still gets the bigs to bite tremendously. I still run a Texas rig and still catch fish. I've always ran 3/16 or 1/8 ounce weight with a 3/0 ewg hook. for my soft plastic, a Watermelon Red Baby Brush Hog. best way I've thrown it and caught fish was dragging it around brush/structure.

can't the same be achieved with an unpegged bullet weight? been doing that since I was little and didn't know pegs existed. a lot better for the tougher days need a slower fall at the end
