In September of last year we lost Winnie Moo (our soul dog) unexpectedly and faster than I could have ever imagined. It broke me in a way I had not yet experienced and I’m still not really sure how to describe it. After she died I did a lot of crazy things like collect every photo we’ve ever taken of her and had them printed. 1000s of pictures. Then I put them in a cupboard because I couldn’t bear to look at them. I still have her bed next to mine and if anyone touches it I go nuts because I worry her smell will fade. Sometimes I spend what could be perceived as an odd amount of time laying in the middle of my yard on the grass where she used to lay. It’s been hard to talk about and I’m a person who loves to talk about feelings whether you like it or not. But this life event changed my being, I think. When we lost her I felt like an essential piece of my life was missing and I genuinely didn’t know what to do with myself. Anxiety through the roof. So much grief. Panic attacks. So much guilt over things I could have done better or differently even though Winnie had a more adventurous and exciting life than your average human and was adored thoroughly every minute of her life. Hey people who have lost dogs before HOW DO YOU DO THIS?!?! Woah. So needless to say it’s been a seriously emotional journey for me - opening my heart to a new little pal. Don’t get me wrong, I ADORE this puppy. But allow me to describe my ride. Perhaps yours was similar. Perhaps my ride could help prepare you for yours. That’s the one really beautiful thing about social media, I think - shared experiences with strangers as well as those we love. Comfort from somewhere we might not expect it. ❤️ Without further ado, the honest absolute roller coaster of emotions I’ve experienced welcoming a new puppy into our family. #newpuppy #puppylove #grief
