The Algerian Revolution was one of the most important anti-colonial struggles of the 20th century. For 132 years, France tried to turn Algeria into an extension of itself through land theft, massacres, torture, and humiliation. But Algeria refused to disappear. Frantz Fanon saw that struggle up close. As a psychiatrist, he understood that colonialism does not only occupy land. It occupies the mind. That’s why Fanon still matters. He gave colonized people a language for what empire does to the body, the psyche, and the soul.
