I searched everywhere for something — anything that could help heal the damage his little body had endured. She came into the shelter with her siblings, and everything about this environment is big, loud, and frightening for a small puppy. The barking never stops. The routines change constantly. Hands and faces are unfamiliar. For a sensitive pup like Tami, the safest choice at first was to hang back and watch. But she is coming around. When I spent time with her, Tami eventually stepped forward and took treats gently from my hand. No fear response. No aggression. Just a young puppy testing whether it was safe to trust — and deciding that it was. A staff member confirmed that all four siblings are showing progress. They approach the front of their kennel doors at feeding time and have not displayed any aggressive behaviors toward staff. These puppies are not “bad dogs.” They are exactly what you’d expect from babies placed in a chaotic, high-stress environment. Tami doesn’t need punishment for being scared.
