I started my first orchard, Tiny Urban Orchard, in the city in 2012. This new orchard at Tiny Country Farm is my second orchard, which I started in Spring 2021. This new orchard is now starting its fourth year and I’m happy to say that it’s far more productive than my first orchard was at the same age. I guess I learned a thing or two from my first go-around! People often ask how quickly fruit trees can begin producing fruits. There’s no quick answer to that because it’s dependent on fruit type, quality of the tree, age of the tree at time of purchase, soil condition, etc. However, you can generally count on some fruit tree types to bear fruits at a younger age than others. Here’s some data on how many trees of each type are producing fruits 3 years into the start of this orchard to illustrate the differences. Asian pear: 13 of 17 fruiting 2 fruited for past 2 years Che: 2 of 2 fruiting for first time Fig: Still setting fruits 3 of 10 had first fruits last year I expect more to fruit this year Jujube: Still in bloom phase 3 of 6 had first fruits last year Mulberry: 2 of 6 are fruiting for first time Pawpaw: 4 of 36 are fruiting for first time Peach: 2 of 2 are in their 3rd year of fruit production American/Asian Hybrid pear: 2 of 2 are fruiting for the first time American persimmon: 4 of 4 are fruiting 2 of 4 fruited for the first time last year American/Asian hybrid persimmon: 2 of 3 are fruiting for the first time Asian persimmon: 17 of 29 are fruiting 6 fruited last year 3 fruited the year prior 1 fruited two years prior Plum: 6 of 7 are fruiting for the first time Pomegranate: Still in bloom phase None have produced fruits yet Serviceberry: 1 of 2 fruiting for first time #growyourownfruit #homegrown #homestead #gardenporn #gardeninspo #greenthumb #gardenhacks #gardentips #howtogarden #gardening #gardentok #gardeninspiration #farmhack #farmlife #backyardgarden #backyardfarm #atlantagardener #georgiagardener #organicgardener #instagardeners #igrewthis #backyardorchard #pawpaw #fig #mulberry #peach #plum #persimmon #asianpear #jujube #pomegranate #serviceberry #che
