I stayed in Newark and took nj transit to Penn station it’s cheap as hell and staying in nj is a lot better tbh nyc felt so over rated upper west side had a better vibe and food scene

I live in nyc and a tip about subway know where uptown and downtown tracks are. Use Google Maps for help as know what trains run express and local. Local makes every stop every 2 or 3 blocks. Express does not make every stop. Express runs ever like 5-10 blocks for one stop

First time in New York. Just left a day ago. Loved it. Stayed in Manhattan West side 48th street. We walked and shopped. Almost to 29th street, we gave up but it was fun walking. We did Manhatran, Staten Island and Queens. Next tripI would do Bronx and Brooklyn proper. We had 1 subway ride to Staten Island and back. We did NJ also via 42 Port Authority use the 111 bus. We ate shopped, saw sites and museums etc. I enjoyed my first time. Sim card is a must. It helped using city mapper app.

Untrue about staying in Times Square. Lots of hotels are fine, and the second you’re inside you’d never know you were right in TS! I’ve stayed in lots.

The subway advice is spot on—NYC moves so much faster when you plan around transit instead of cabs. I also like the reminder to look beyond Times Square for where to stay and eat.

100% on the data, I went in April and tried to activate my e-sim at the airport and it wouldn't work, had to get a $70 taxi to the hotel as didn't know what subways to get
