Replying to @Stuff.stuff.123 women deserve to take up space in the gym. This video is for women. I was tagged in another video of someone having an unpleasant experience in the gym. And the words “you deserve to take up space in the gym” really hit a chord with me. There are research studies that ask people what they find difficult about exercising, and going to the gym. Do you know some common answers from women, specifically? Not feeling safe. Being worried about harassment. Being worried about violence (especially exercising outdoors). Being worried that men will hog equipment but being too scared to say anything. I have been in the gym with my wife enough to see how some of this plays out. For example, I have been on an identical bench NEXT TO HER, and seen a conveyor belt of guys ask her when she was finished, but nobody asked me when I would be done. None of this was aggressive, perhaps just a subconscious tendency to ask the smaller woman lifting lighter weights. But I have also seen things that looked far more malicious. Guys standing weirdly close to her while she lifted because they wanted the machine. Intensely staring at her to the point she felt so uncomfortable she messaged me from across the gym and asked if I could come and stand near her. THIS SHOULD NOT BE CONTROVERSIAL FOR GUYS. Whilst it isn’t all dudes, and it isn’t all gyms, I think most of us would readily admit that gyms can be intimidating places and the most intimidating behaviours are probably disproportionately performed by men. Have you had any bad experiences in the gym that you are ok sharing? If so, let’s hear them. P.S. At the end of each post, I remind you that my best-selling book, ‘Everything Fat Loss’ is currently on sale as an audiobook, plus digital/print versions from Barnes and Noble, Apple, Kobo, Google, and Amazon. Please feel free to grab it if you would like (Iink in profile). #women #woman #takeupspace #gym #gympositivity #Fitness #exercise #Running #jogging #workout #safety
