When I was younger, I thought successful people had a clear roadmap. I thought they picked one thing, became great at it, and followed a straight path from point A to point B. But the older I get, the more I realize that almost everything meaningful in my life came from taking a detour. I studied mechanical engineering because I loved building things. Then I became fascinated by robotics. Then I discovered wearable technology. Then I started asking what engineering could look like if it belonged on a runway. None of those decisions made complete sense at the time. Most of them felt random. Some of them felt irresponsible. Yet every time I followed something that genuinely sparked my curiosity, it led me somewhere I never could have planned. A research project became a dress. A dress became an art piece. An art piece became a fashion show. A fashion show became a conversation with people all over the world. Looking back, the path seems obvious. Living it felt anything but. There are still days when I don’t know exactly where all of this is going. I still spend hours at whiteboards, sketchbooks, and workbenches trying to solve problems I don’t know the answers to. I still find myself interested in things that don’t fit neatly into a single category. But I’ve stopped seeing that as a weakness. The things that make us different are often the things that create entirely new possibilities. So if you’re standing at the intersection of multiple interests and wondering whether you’re doing it wrong, maybe you’re not. Maybe you don’t need a perfectly mapped-out path. Maybe you just need enough courage to follow the next question that keeps you awake at night. Sometimes curiosity knows where you’re going long before you do.
