@kkut.cooks: We came to Yogyakarta for the food, but it felt wrong to stay without visiting the largest Buddhist temple in the world (in Magelang)! ✨ We thought we were getting a temple tour, turns out we accidentally signed up for a life lesson! 😮‍💨 Mr. Agus clearly loves being a tour guide, and somehow every explanation about Borobudur, Buddhist culture, history, and daily life turned into something thoughtful and inspiring, so here we are sharing it to youuu 🫶✨ . 📝 Mr. Agus explained that Borobudur was built with several levels, each representing different stages of human life and spiritual growth. At the very top lies Nirvana, symbolizing the highest state of peace and liberation. He explained that true peace, or heaven, can be found within our minds and souls. Throughout Borobudur's reliefs and carvings, there are six different hand gestures, each carrying its own meaning and message. Although they represent different teachings, many of them share the same core idea: to become a kind, generous, and compassionate human being. One of the most memorable things he shared was that Buddhism is not only about rituals or worship, but also about teaching people how to live peacefully and harmoniously with others and with the world around them. Humanity and the teachings of compassion and loving-kindness for all beings including people, animals, and even flora and fauna: are among its most important values. His words served as a reminder that much of the damage we see on Earth today comes from human greed. Mr. Agus wasn't directly explaining Buddhist teachings or trying to teach Buddhism itself. Rather, he was sharing the history of Borobudur and the Javanese-Buddhist beliefs and philosophies connected to it.
