My last post of me in my Marvin Gaye Tribute Show look has gotten over 150,000 views and is growing. I'm fairly new here on TikTok, only a few months ago, but I've been professionally impersonating the late great Marvin Pence Gaye II for almost 10 years now. It all came from my observation that of all the Iconic artists that have been impersonated, like Michael Jackson, Prince, Elton John, Elvis, Cher and Tina Turner, there was no Marvin Gaye Tribute Show. Then I heard God say,
My last post of me in my Marvin Gaye Tribute Show look has gotten over 150,000 views and is growing. I'm fairly new here on TikTok, only a few months ago, but I've been professionally impersonating the late great Marvin Pence Gaye II for almost 10 years now. It all came from my observation that of all the Iconic artists that have been impersonated, like Michael Jackson, Prince, Elton John, Elvis, Cher and Tina Turner, there was no Marvin Gaye Tribute Show. Then I heard God say, "Because I'm saving it for you." Now I've been singing since I was 5. So I can sing his songs a little bit. I don't claim to sound like Marvin, although some say I do. I've just studied his cadence, pocket, and vocal infections, and I take it very seriously. I read Devided Soul The Life of Marvin Gaye by David Ritz to tap into an understanding of who Marvin Gaye was and why his life and music were so profound and prolific. Then I just started posting videos of me singing his songs a capella. The first being, "Just To Keep You Satisfied." I sang it in my living room wearing a wife beater. You can find that video along with many more performances on my YouTube channel. Search Chae Stephen. Then I bought a red beanie and had his iconic Studded denim outfit replicated to the best of my budget and ability and bought a red suit, and did a photo shoot. Unbeknownst to me my videos had gotten the attention of Marvin Gaye's baby sister Zeola Gaye and she reached out to me through Facebook and asked if I would come to Vegas to perform at her annual "My Brother Marvin" birthday celebration. So I did and she paid me very well. That started a wonderful bond between us. Shortly after that, I received a message from D'extra Whiley who just so happened to be Marvin Gaye III business partner. He had seen my photos online and my videos of me singing. They were casting for a play called, "Pride and Joy: The Marvin Gaye Musical" and he felt that I would be perfect to play the older "What's Going On" phase of Marvin in the play. They were holding auditions in Detroit. They booked me a flight. I packed my Marvin Gaye Outfits, flew to Detroit, and nailed it. It was an 11 city major theater run. I couldn't believe it. But God told me, right? Energy doesn't lie. The red beanie that I bought from a BP gas station for $3.50? I decided that I wanted to add rhinestones to it. So I went to Michael's, got some rhinestones, some fabric glue, and tweezers and placed every single rhinestone one at a time. Each placement was undeniable energy that the universe had to honor. The pictures in this post of me wearing it have been seen on marquees and billboards throughout the country. This isn't a braggadocious post. Just one to state the cause and effect of hard work and listening to when the spirit speaks to us we must listen and move on it. Marvin Gaye was adored by millions of people. There is no replacing him and what he's done to touch so many through his musical contributions to the world. Whenever I do my shows, it makes people so happy, and I'm just grateful that little ole me, Charles "Chae" Stephen can invoke such a nostalgic experience in his fans.
