Did you know? • The Double Duty Condition: Ryuichi Sakamoto did not originally ask to score the movie. Director Nagisa Ōshima initially approached him purely to act in the film alongside David Bowie. Sakamoto, who had never acted before, agreed on one strict, bold condition: "I will only do it if you let me write and compose the entire musical soundtrack." Ōshima immediately accepted. • The Traditional Instrument Illusion: The track famously captures a deeply haunting, traditional Asian sonic atmosphere. However, there is not a single traditional acoustic instrument used in the recording.
