I have a five-year-old who sees the world differently, Whose little mind learns at its own pace, uniquely. With developmental challenges, ADHD, and eyes that struggle to see, And just one precious kidney, there’s so much I worry about silently. While other children seem to reach their milestones with ease, My little one may need more time, more patience, and more support to succeed. And sometimes I wish I could take every struggle away, And let my baby enjoy a childhood without so much to face each day. I have two younger children who are growing in their own way, And sometimes I wonder if my oldest notices the difference every day. They may learn things faster or do things with ease, While my oldest needs extra help, extra time, and extra patience from me. And my heart aches knowing I can’t always explain Why their little journey comes with challenges and pain. Why things that seem so simple to others can be hard to get through, And why the world isn’t always patient with a child who’s different too. I worry about the future, about what they might face, About whether the world will give them kindness, patience, and grace. Will people see beyond the struggles and the things they do differently? Will they see the beautiful child that means absolutely everything to me? Some nights I cry quietly, carrying worries no one can see, Wondering if I’m doing enough for all three children depending on me. Trying to divide my time, my energy, and my love, Wishing I could give them all more than enough. Because parenting a child with extra needs can be beautiful and hard, It means celebrating little victories while carrying worries in your heart. It means fighting for support, advocating every day, And loving a child fiercely while learning as you make your way. But listen, my sweet baby, there’s something you need to know: You are not behind in life just because you take more time to grow. You are not less than your siblings, and you never have to be the same. You never have to earn my love, and you never have to feel ashamed. Your ADHD doesn’t define you. Your eyesight doesn’t define your worth. Your developmental delays don’t make you any less deserving of this earth. And having one kidney is just one part of your story, not all you are. You are so much more than diagnoses written down on a chart. I’ll celebrate every milestone, no matter how small, I’ll stand beside you when you stumble, and I’ll catch you if you fall. I’ll advocate when you need a voice, and I’ll help you find your own, And I’ll make sure you always know you never have to face life alone. I have THREE beautiful children, and each holds a piece of my heart. Their journeys may look different, but none is loved less from the start. Fair doesn’t always mean identical; sometimes love looks different day to day, Because each little heart needs something different along the way. To my oldest, my warrior, my precious five-year-old, You are more than your challenges, more precious than gold. I’ll never measure your worth by how quickly you learn or how far you can see. I’ll love you exactly as you are, for all eternity. 💙 Different journey. Same worth. Endless love. Always my baby. 🩵 #SpecialNeedsParenting #DevelopmentalDisability #ADHDAwareness #ParentingThree #DifferentNotLess
