This guy took a “contradiction” which can be easily explained by the fact that “yom” (the Hebrew word for “day”) doesn’t mean a 24 hour period in every context, but rather can refer to an era or an elongated time frame (just like it does in English), the word “be-yom” in Hebrew is used in many contexts where it’s translated as “when”, A clear example of this happening elsewhere in the Bible is Isaiah 4:2: “In that day the Branch of the Lord will be beautiful and glorious.” Here, it again uses “be-yom” (literally translating to “in that day,” but idiomatically it can be translated as “when”), a literal “24 hour day” would make zero sense in that context since it’s clearly talking about a future “era”. So when Genesis 2:17 uses “be-yom”, there’s no reason to automatically assume it means “within 24 hours.” The context and Hebrew usage allow for a broader time frame. But of course, it’s much easier to mislead “anti-theist” middle schoolers on tiktok by bringing up the “God time” argument, which is a minority position that no modern day theologist actually argues for. The idea itself also predates Christianity and its first recorded example comes from “Jubilees”which was written around 200BC

Not to mention that God presumably created a tree more powerful than himself, which can grant immortality that he could not strip away. Otherwise, it wouldn’t have been an issue to lock Adam and Eve out of the garden so they couldn’t eat from the tree, if it was a matter of immortality that he could take from them.

first of all god never said he was going to die instantly or on a determined date, i'm really suprised with the ammount of christianity larpers if not ragebaiters in this comment section. God said he was going to die because humans (adam and eve) used to be immortal before eating the fruit. When eating it, humanity was exposed to human thinking, knowledge AND mortality. So yeah, when god said that they were gonna die, he meant they would lose their immortality.
