@helen_christie: Extra tid bits! ⚽️ The famous Dik Kerr Ladies team were raising huge sums for charity and drawing crowds that rivalled (and sometimes beat) men’s matches! But the FA additionally complained that too much of the gate money was being absorbed by expenses and not enough was going to the charitable causes. Meanwhile, men’s professional football wasn’t held to the same “charity-only” standard. 😩 Because of the ban, women’s games were relegated to much smaller capacity fields with way less resources and exposure. Hugely stunting development opportunity. Doctors at the time claimed football could harm women’s fertility… yet women weren’t banned from playing altogether… only from playing within the FA and on affiliated pitches. Sooooo apparently it was only dangerous if it was in a professional capacity? Got it. 💀 And for my final fact ….
