For me it’s 1 or 2 drinks. Anything past that can impair a person’s ability to drive and if they don’t care about that I’m out.

I’m a 55 year old single woman, a widow and also a Partner in a large healthcare company of rehabs and detoxes. A true blue alcoholic cannot just drink a few drinks and then stop. They drink until they’re smashed. They can do it daily or some are binge drinkers. It’s also a progressive disease, so anyone drinking that much while just waiting for a table is a serious red flag and if not already alcoholic, is likely on their way on becoming one.

If the amount makes you wonder if it’s too much…that’s your answer. Whether he’s an alcoholic or not doesn’t matter. That would be way too many drinker for my comfort on any date.

Everyone has a different tolerance to liquor. I wouldn’t judge someone based on quantity. I would base it on behavior. If they change drastically when they drink then that would be concerning

A red flag (for a relationship) is when their drinking habits make you uncomfortable really or question it. Dated a guy who acted fine after 5 drinks. Red flag is when he made it clear he was never stopping and that he limits it at 5 although he wants to drink more.

I'm 55, NOT dating, LOL my last husband used to drink a lot, any weekend plans had to be planned in such a way as to not disturb his drinking, he had a good job, and thankfully he didn't want to risk that by driving around, he wasn't up for me to drive him around, he was content on drinking all Friday and Saturday night (and any other night, should he not have to work the next day) in the garage.... we long distanced dated prior to getting married and I didn't think it was a big deal, his personality actually improved with drinking, LOL which is why I said that he was such an a$$hole during the week is because it was a detox cycle.... love him, hate the drinking, when I got invited to leave, I did, it was hard and painful, I look back often, but I don't ever want to go back

So many variables to consider. Some people who never drink are tipsy after 1 drink. Others have high tolerance. It depends on how long the wait is and how long you're at dinner. But I think the bottom line is, if they have to drink on every date, drink every day, or drink til they are drunk every time they drink, there is a problem. I know people who drink at home every day and plan it that way. They refuse to go anywhere or do anything with their families or friends even if someone else drives because they had drinks. They don't see anything wrong with it because they stay home and drink. I think it screams big red flags. So go with your gut feelings and be very cautious . Don't ignore behaviors.
