With respect, I think I’m gonna defer to the HVAC professional on HVAC advice. $100 for an air purifier vs spending $5000+ on AC unit that goes out early due to undue stress

Unfortunately my furnace can be repaired, but my body can't. lol
So yeah, higher filtration can be hard on a furnace, but it makes a huge difference to air quality

NOT TRUE. I've been doing these for years and I use the maximum and you could tell a total difference

My hvac guy told me the same thing. Don’t go the best. Do lower to mid grade.

All residential ac systems are the low ones. None are made for the high level so technically the original guy is right

The question is: do you want to maximize your system life, or do you want to improve your own. People act like ‘oh don’t do anything that makes your system work hard’. It’s there to work -for me-. Does that mean the service life goes from 18 down to 16? Maybe. Yknow what else has a shortened service life from working too hard on bad air? Me! I’ll sacrifice the A.C. fan for my health and life, thanks.

If you can’t afford higher ones replace it sooner (in my amateur opinion)

So don’t grab highest number, but grab the highest number your system can handle? Is that the distinction here?

hvac tech here, merv 8-10 is where you want to be. any higher and youll have air flow restrictions. if you go too low it doesnt protect the equipment.

This man simply is trying to tell you how to make your HVAC system run efficiently and last longer. Everything he said in that regard is true. Your allergies are not on his radar.

Hi. Hvac tech of over 20 years here. Use the lower ones. Your equipment is more important than your stuffy nose. Esp when you’ll don’t replace that thing as much as it’s needed to
