I never had that growing up and tbf I was incredibly lucky (only child) But my Tamil husband really struggled- and I would notice he would eat dinner like twice. Had to explain you don’t need to fight for your food here, nobody else is gonna eat it. Turns out in his home when mum made food- it was legit first come first served…if you were last there was nothing left- that would include that dad aswell. So if the pot is empty, you’d go to sleep hungry.

Sometimes as an adult you find out the struggles our parents when through to keep a roof over our heads and that we fed and had clothes Remember few years ago sat down with my Mum she accidentally told me sometimes she didn't eat but make sure we did as kids. That broke my heart.
