Replying to @It’s Me One mistake can stop your dog from boarding 👇 The good news is you CAN take your pets abroad when you move (or travel), but not following these steps can end their journey before you even take off 💉microchip, rabies, + vaccines: this differs for each country, but generally rabies vaccines need to be done 21-28 days before the flight 📄dogs need to receive a certificate from your vet AND USDA stamp to be able to travel. For example, for Colombia this is needed 10 days before your flight, no more. This is where it can get expensive, l've seen it range from $400-800+ (ours cost $580 EACH DOG) - if your flight has layovers in different countries you *may* need a certificate for each country ✈️ each airline has different requirements and limitations. Not all aircraft's are equipped to put dogs in cargo and not every route can accept dogs. You must book your ticket then call your airline to add the dogs + pay separately. Generally dogs under 20lbs can go in cabin and larger dogs must fly cargo (We paid $220 extra per dog to fly cargo, cabin would have been $150) ⏰ arrive early to the airport. Airlines limit the amount of animals on any flight and this can get tricky 🐶 if flying cargo, dogs must be in a proper crate. They need a certain amount of room on each side + above them to lay down comfortably, food/water, and it is not recommended to give sedatives 🌎 each country has different requirements and rules. For example, in the EU they have a pet passport system that allows easier travel throughout. Pets also must go through a separate agricultural control upon landing, even layovers. Prepare for enough time between flights (or miss your flight, like what happened to us) Pets are a part of our family, please don't move abroad and abandon them. Imagine the trauma that causes them. I hope this answered your questions, if you want to know anything else about flying with pets drop in the comments below!
