@ejv_27: If you have a prepaid electricity meter, this is something you should know. ๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฆ The Freedom Front Plus says it's receiving a growing number of complaints from Tshwane residents who claim they've been hit with fines of up to R75,000 for allegedly tampering with their prepaid electricity meters. ๐Ÿ’ธ According to the complaints: ๐Ÿ”ง Residents report power faults. ๐Ÿ‘ท Technicians arrive and temporarily bypass the meter to restore electricity. ๐Ÿ•ต๏ธ Soon afterwards, inspectors allegedly accuse the same residents of meter tampering. ๐Ÿ’ฐ Some residents also claim they were asked to pay cash to make the fine "disappear." The allegations are serious, and some residents have already opened criminal cases with SAPS. ๐Ÿš” The FF+ says residents should: ๐Ÿ“ธ Take photos of your electricity meter before and after any technician works on it. ๐Ÿ“ Keep all fault reference numbers and records. ๐Ÿšซ Never pay anyone cash to cancel a fine. โ˜Ž๏ธ Report any alleged bribery or extortion to the police immediately. ๐Ÿ“ง If you believe a fine is unfair, submit a formal dispute to the City of Tshwane. At the same time, Tshwane is rolling out new smart prepaid electricity meters worth R78 million. โšก These new meters are designed to: โœ… Detect tampering automatically. โœ… Monitor electricity usage remotely. โœ… Help reduce electricity theft. โœ… Improve municipal revenue collection. The smart meters use sensors that can detect if someone tries to open, disconnect, or interfere with the meter. They can also identify unusual electricity usage patterns that may indicate illegal connections or bypassing. ๐Ÿ“ก If you have a prepaid electricity meter, always keep records of any work done on your property. It could save you from a costly dispute later. ๐Ÿ’ก Do you think fines as high as R75,000 are fair, or should there be better investigations before residents are penalised? ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ‘‡ #southafricantiktok #electricity #prepaidmeter #tshwane #eskom

We use U-Vend Prepaid Meters, switched all our old ones out and probably best decision, they monitor everything. Highly recommend and not being biased as weโ€™ve used multiple different service providers in the past
