How much money is enough? I often get asked this question and there’s a simple formula for it. The first thing you need to calculate is, how much do I want to spend each year living the life that I want to live? Then what we’re going to do is we’re going to times that number by 20. So for example, if I’m spending $500,000 a year, I’m happy. I times that by 20, that’s $10 million. Then what you need to do is you need to put that $10 million in invested assets, with the average return of 10%. This means that you’re now making a million dollars a year off those investments. Which means that you can take $500,000 of your spending money and still make another $500,000 on top of that. Now you’ve got to consider a few things here. First of all, you’ve obviously got inflation, which let’s average that at 3%. So now we only have $200,000 left, or a 2% return. And this is where things get tricky and you need to be disciplined, because if the investments have a bad year, let’s take index funds, you need to pull back your spending or find a way to earn more. I’m not a financial advisor. All I’m saying is that the key here is understanding exactly what you’re spending and how that actually impacts having fuck you money. Once you understand this maths, you can see that a lot of people stay in the game that they hate, doing businesses that they hate, to earn money that they don’t need for way longer than they should. And they should be doing something much better. Obviously, disclaimer, not a financial advisor. Head to my instagram and comment “COACH” if you want help growing your ecom brand.
