Not saying this will work for everyone but having a pet to take care of helps me get up and start the day so much because I don’t care if i don’t eat breakfast or go to the bathroom but if my little baby is starving i have to fix it like existing for me is a no but if i have another being to keep alive that overpowers the getting stuck in bed

I have been doing this for like a few months and it really helps. Sometimes I watch people’s GRWM’s so I can soft launch the idea of leaving bed, showering and getting ready .. so mandatory phone time first thing in the morning

i do the same thing and I always feel so guilty for it because it makes me start my day very late and then i feel unproductive... but maybe I have to switch that narrative

i also spend about an hour on my phoen for transition, when i get out of bed too quickly it physically feels awful and i have a hard time meeting the day. when i wake up i check my emails, i spend some time on tiktok, i respond to texts and i let myself actually process the day im about to have. its so much better than forcing my body to move before its ready

I have accepted the slow transition life. 🥰 I keep a basket beside my bed with a few things so that I can actually do some tasks in my bed before I even have to get out.

I just moved from my bed to the couch. Still gonna scroll for at least another 20 minutes, but it makes the transition to yoga time easier if I’m already out of my bedroom

I have aphantasia so I can’t visualize myself doing things.. however I find starting a countdown from 7 works. Cant be 10, thats too long. Has to be from 7.

A trick I’ve heard to make the transition easier, is to very slowly over the course of an hour, you move positions, so you start laying down, then sitting up slightly, fully sitting up, sitting on the edge of the bed, and then standing. It can make the transition easier to cope with!

i’m so glad i’m seeing this bc i have audhd and i think not being in your phone after waking up is helpful for the adhd mind. but you’re so right about transitions and my phone being an anchor. every morning i check my notifs, i don’t always get engulfed but a look at who may have reached out to me while i was sleep

Something that has helped me to get out of bed is instead of telling myself to get out of bed is firstly just trying to sit up in bed instead of laying. It’s a way smaller task and i find that as soon as I sit up, generally i will feel more awake and ready. I will give myself some time just sitting and then the transition to standing up is reduced

i have been bullying myself about not packing up my closet to move (the hardest part) but most of why is so hard is yes the volume but also because my dad made me pack a house that held 6 people alone in a month as punishment for my regular teen rebellion. i ran away to go have a sleepover with my boyfriend. but whatever he berated me through it all and i felt horrid and it was so hard to start packing but i gave myself grace and i put on good music and smoked some weed and got my coffee and i was able to do it. it is okay to take your time. it took me four days to start. it can take an hour to get out of bed. it’s okay. (i do the hour of phone time too lmao)

Someone once suggested saying it out loud “I’m going to brush my teeth”. For ADHD brains in particular this can be a helpful way to initiate a task because it gives the brain a command.

Me too, and then in order to make the transition less difficult, I take my phone to do the next thing, so if it’s brushing my teeth I keep on watching. It’s better than not brushing my teeth at all

Ain't that normal. I plan everything in the speed of light before I do it. I have rehearsed everything in my head before O do it.... 😳

Idk if this applies but I use YT videos/shows to help transition tasks. Like I will have laid in bed for 3 hours wanting to get up to start a nice little morning routine but it’s so hard to actually get up and start it but when I find a good video or show to watch it helps my brain get into the “ok I need to do something with my hands now” kinda state and that gets me to get up and start doing things while watching and it makes the task in general more enjoyable. I even keep track of how long I’ve been brushing my teeth and stuff via the time on the video.
