O Worship the King Robert Grant wrote O Worship the King in 1833 as a poetic retelling of Psalm 104, a psalm celebrating God’s creative power and tender care. Grant was a British parliamentarian and a devout Anglican whose work reflected his faith in a just and merciful God. The hymn begins with majesty - God clothed in light, riding on the wind - and ends with mercy: “Our Maker, Defender, Redeemer, and Friend.” It holds two truths together: God’s greatness and God’s nearness. Every part of creation, every act of grace, bears witness to the same truth: the King we worship rules with compassion. Text: Robert Grant, 1833 Tune: LYONS 1. O worship the King, all-glorious above, O gratefully sing His power and His love; our Shield and Defender, the Ancient of Days, pavilioned in splendor and girded with praise. 2. O tell of His might, O sing of His grace, whose robe is the light, whose canopy space; His chariots of wrath the deep thunderclouds form, and dark is His path on the wings of the storm. 3. Thy bountiful care what tongue can recite? It breathes in the air, it shines in the light; it streams from the hills, it descends to the plain, and sweetly distills in the dew and the rain. 4. Frail children of dust, and feeble as frail, in Thee do we trust, nor find Thee to fail; Thy mercies how tender, how firm to the end, our Maker, Defender, Redeemer, and Friend. #hymns #organ #churchmusic #OWorshipTheKing #ChristianTikTok
